Course Overview
Repeated trauma in adult life erodes a personality already formed, but repeated trauma in childhood forms and deforms the personality (Herman, 1997). “The child trapped in an abusive environment must find a way to preserve a sense of trust in people who are untrustworthy, safety in a situation that is unsafe, control in a situation that is terrifyingly and unpredictable; power in a situation of helplessness.” (Herman, 1997, 96).
During the course you review theories and methods for helping and healing childhood trauma that are research supported. You gain skills using therapeutic art and guided visualization as healing modalities. You incorporate the use of the elements and the theories and practices of mental health nursing, developmental, spiritual, and counseling psychologies.

Testimonial
I appreciated the combination of width and depth that this course provided to my knowledge about childhood trauma. The material felt very well organized and focused. It guided me to direct my attention to potent aspects of understanding childhood trauma and then focused on creating a depth of understanding to be used practically. The style of language used throughout this course felt very supportive because it was direct while also being easy to understand and digest. I have already noticed a qualitative difference in my observations and ability to navigate conversations and interactions with clients as a result of completing this course.
The skills that I gained during this course are skills that I have already started using daily in my client work and will continue to use going forward. The practical and simple skills taught to support people living with trauma provide strengthened feelings of self-efficacy and security in holding space for clients who have experienced childhood trauma and being able to guide them through effective trauma work in a safe and grounded manner.
Personally, I gained so much from all that I learned during this course. While many of the things I learned were things I was revisiting, I truly feel that this course provides an authentic depth to the integrated understanding of childhood trauma. I found that as I learned and practiced the methods taught in this course, not only did I feel more equipped to work with clients, but I felt more compassionate toward myself. I also observed an increased curiosity about how the methods taught in the course will support my own deepening self-exploration and healing. I found myself gaining deeper understanding and heightened awareness of elements of my own childhood trauma that I have been working with for quite some time. This course was a beautiful and much appreciated initiation into yet another layer of trauma healing for the purpose of growth and freedom.
